A book

Question

I was reading several pages of a book that belongs to a friend of mine and I found it somewhat interesting. I do not speak hebrew very well to begin with and my attention span isn't that long when reading translations for example Artscroll. I just wanted to know if the book is "Kosher" before I bought it. Its called Biblical Literacy by Rabbi Joseph Telushkin. If this book is not good, can you suggest on that is more suitable. Thanks a lot. PS: I do not mean to substitute this book for learning all together. I do feel like after reading it, it may make my learning easier all together.
