Question

when I make brachot on the lights for Shabbat/Yom Tov I make the Bracha first and then turn the lights on. I don't cover my eyes or anything. I do the same at the mikvah- make the bracha first. Is that wrong? Can I turn on and off a stove that has the igniter for the burner at the begining of the cycle on Yom tov? If there is a way to turn it so the igniter doesn't actually light the flame? How would I make an eruv between the alcove/enterance to my apartment building to a succah that is about 10 feet away? I'm sure there was more but I can't remember now.....
