Avoda Zara in Jewish Schools

The Beis Yaakov here was able to find a Gentile who was a Phd in Biology (or something like this) who was willing to earn only 30k per year to teach the girls so that they could pass their tests and go to college and support a husband who learns. This "scientist" taught "evolution" and then went on to "prove" that the Torah was "all nonsense". She recommended some "real books" to the girls. Can you BELIEVE that it later turned out that this woman was a missionary???? The effect that this woman had on the girls in the community was devastating. There is no such thing as a "little harmless avoda zara". I was once taught that it is forbidden in the Shulhan Aruh to give a Jewish child over to a Gentile to teach arts and literature for fear that they might follow in their ways. When I protested the hire of this woman to the Principal of Beis Yaakov, I was told that this does not apply to todays Gentiles who are "not ovdei avoda zara" and "that no one actually follows the Shulhan Aruch these days". Later it was found out that there were two from Chosen Peoples ministries and two from two other Christian organizations teaching science and math and one who was the Principal of Secular Studies. Of course it did not occur to the Rabbis who were hiring this "talent" that they would be willing to work for half of what industry paid because they had ulterior motives. And of course it is all justified because it "will help the girls become partners with their husbands in the pursuit of Torah". When we were growing up and had no choice but to attend public school, our mothers wrote notes that the study of mythology was against our religions and we were EXEMPT!! That's right, I sat in the library when they were teaching evolution in High School Biology and skipped the three month unit on Greek and Roman mythology!! No problem. Try that in a "Jewish" school today!
