I know this subject has been discussed to death on this site and I apologize for bringing it up yet once again. However, I recently was discussing this issue with someone and he had me backed into a corner when he said r' moshe clearly says that a ben torah should be machmir. I am a girl, and I don't really understand seforim that well, so I was wondering if you can tell me exactly what R' Moshe really says. Of course I trust you when you have said that R' Moshe holds its fine for all, I just would like to be a little more knowledgeable in the future in case this discussion comes up again, as I'm sure it will. Answered by Aaron AbadiJust like he had you backed in a corner, so did his type and predecessors have Rav Moshe under extreme pressure to not say this Psak (decision). Anyone who was around then and is a bit honest will tell you that Rav Moshe's biggest aggravation was from saying that the milk is OK. So he writes very clearly in his Teshuvot (responsa) that it is Ok, but he often ends with "a ben torah should be machmir," or the like. It is not a Halachic thing, but rather a disclaimer. It serves its purpose, so "Mr. backer in the corner" can feel good that he is a big Tzaddik. Does he go to Ball Games? That Rav Moshe said is 100% not allowed. Not a Chumrah. Just plain Assur! How about all those other things Rav Moshe says? Don't let people bully you. That is how they keep the sheep in line. If you leave the pasture they whip you, so you know you better go back. You find a Rav and follow him and let everyone else go to .............. AA
