what is the rabbi position on the convert status in the syrian community- is it not true that the communitey is hating the converts and not loving them and taking them in when they follow the guidelines? why did the rabbis way back establish that no converts are allowed n the syrian community? didnt they have this problem for thousands of years all of a sudden now they decide to put this ban?

Answered by Aaron AbadiNo idea what and who made this decision, but it certainly does not apply today. Anyone that mistreats a convert is going to have a serious problem on his/her judgment day. It's not a game. If someone says they won't accept converts and the law says that you could and thus should accept them, that is a grave sin and responsibility. If the person does not convert because of it, the one who denied him conversion, just caused generations of potential Jews to be non-jews. That will cost him. On the other hand, if it were the correct thing not to accept converts, than things would be the opposite. I can't judge the facts of a previous decision that I know nothing about, but today it is certainly a Mitzvah to accept converts. AA
