corn syrup on pesach

Question

it is interesting to learn that ashkenazi can eat corn syrup on pesach. i can't even fathom how much money has been spent on overpriced pesach brands for the simple reason of avoiding the ingredient corn syrup. is there any supposed halachic reason or misinterpretaion that all these other people ashkenazim attribute for not eating a product with corn syrup (such as regular sodas etc).

The Ashkanazim hold that kitniyot is assur, but it is muttar if it is batel b'rov. Hence when it is in drinks, it is batel. CYA
