Covering Hair

Question

The Mitzvah of covering hair is NOT to not have hair. The way we learned it in High School- The origin comes from Isha Sotah, where the Pasuk says the Paruah et Rosh, there starting a Machloket of what exactly Paruah meant. Either uncovering or unbraiding. The Mishna went into all different places and kinds of head coverings that were acceptable or not acceptable. We also learned that Wigs only posed a problem of Marat Ayin where someone might think that a womans hair is not covered. But in this day and age wigs have become acceptable in most communities. A woman that wears a custom wig with $3000 hair, that is 100 times more gorgeous and shiny that her own hair is STILL wearing something on her head as a constant reminder that she is a Jewish woman and a wife. And trust me, she feels it there every minute of the day. One of my teachers compared covering hair to a man's obligation of wearing tzitzit. It is a constant reminder of G-d and how a jew should act. Not everyone neccesarily know who wears tzitzit, but I have been told that if you wear them YOU KNOW. Just my thoughts, Tammi
