Crock Pot and Timer

Question

I notice that you have permitted setting a timer on a popcorn maker, breadmaker and coffee grinder/maker so that it turns on during Shabbat. a) Would this also apply to a crockpot containing cholent ingredients? b) Could we also cook a vegetable soup in this manner; ie; on a timer based crockpot that turns on Shabbat morning? There are those that don't use clocks for AC and the like. Then they wouldn't be able to use a clock for these either. However, my father holds that a clock can be used for these items and so the same would be with the above examples CYA
