Culinary School
Question
Dear Rabbi, Is it permissable for a woman to go to a culinary school that requires her to cook unkosher food as part of the classes (obviously not eating the food)? If the woman wants to become a chef in a (kosher) resturaunt, having gone to this school will certainly help this profession.
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiBoth the school and the job are not allowed. AA ____________________________ you then emailed me..... dear rabbi, after reading your response to my question, im a little confused... whats wrong with working in a KOSHER resturaunt?? Joe ______________________________ and I responded.... sorry. I must have thought I saw "non-kosher restaurant. The cooking non-kosher is a problem. So it's just the school that is a problem. See if they'll let you bring your own kosher food instead. When they cook lobster, just watch. You're not allowed to benefit directly from the use of non-kosher, in most cases. The criteria is "rotzeh Bekeyumo," wanting it to be around. AA
