cutting

Question

In my shul we have myrtle branches for besamim motzaei shabbat. Can we pull apart the branches before shabbat is over to distribute to the congregation? (It is psikat talush which I thought would be assur because we are cutting it to a specific size (small peices to have enough for everyone) or is it ok because it is for dvar mitzva?)

after 45 minutes past sunset it's no problem. Do you need to do it beforehand? AA
