depression

Question

a while ago you answered: "Don't use this ban on music as an escuse for depression. Depression is a much worse sin." did you mean that depression in itself is a sin? or is it just that since it is a mitzvah to be happy, we wouldnt be fulfilling a mitzvah asse by being depressed? (what about clinical depression?) thank you for clarifying! ao

Depression can come from many things. The sin is when we don't take steps to prevent it, if we can, or if we don't treat it once it is there. Some people have egos and cannot seek help, and some people consider depression an essential part of being ultra-religious. Depression is dangerous and if left untreated, can cause other complications, physically and mentally. AA
