dessert

Question

A while back I asked about having dessert before birkat hamazon and you replied to eat before birkat hamazon. Does that include cakes and cookies? Do you say mezonot, etz, adama, shehakol, on dessert that is eaten before birkat hamazon? Is there a problem of saying mezonot before birkat hamazon?
