Eggs II

Question

HaRav, My question is regarding the previous question about eggs today not being Safna Mearah hence they don't need to be checked. I buy only free range organic eggs and most of the companies that produce these eggs let the hens run free with roosters around. Having visited a farm that produces free range eggs and seeing first hand the roosters run amok, I feel compelled to check all of the eggs that I buy. You may ask why I only buy free range organic eggs??? Most companies that produce conventional eggs remove the hen's beaks and cut off their toes so that they don't peck and scratch each other. The then insert feeding tubes into the hens and force feed them while stuffing them into cages so small that their feet grow into the cage...if this isn't tzaar baalei chaim, I don't know what is. I don't know if these practices render the hens treifos, but it is disturbing nonetheless. Now a dozen conventional egss goes for 99 cents while a dozen free range eggs goes for just over $3, but the piece of mind is worth it. Having said all this... 1. Do I still need to check my free range organic eggs? 2. Are the hens used in conventional eggs treifos? 3. If they are triefos, may we eat their eggs? 4. If they are not treifos, why does the O-U certify eggs? (I know the answer to this one...just threw it in for fun ;>) Kol Tuv, Aric
