Elections

Question

How much should we care about elections? We say a prayer for the head of the country, so there is obviously some makor for caring about government and its officers. How do we base our opinion from a halachic point of view? Is it simply who is better for Israel, or who is bettter for the Jews of this country? Is it someone who will destry the coutry morally or someone who will lead us into World War 3 by antagonizing our cousins the arabs?
