Elevator and door key

Question

Please help me understand why it is okay to ask the Gentile to open the hotel room for you electronically and it is not okay to ask the Gentile to push the elevator button for you to get back to your room. I just leave the hotel room door slightly ajar on Shabbat. I have never had a problem with this. I wouldn't leave anything in a hotel room anyway, because numerous maids always have access to the room. I have always requested no maid service on Shabbat as this is what I learned from my parents.
