Enzymes used as clarifying agent
Question
Rabbi Abadi: Fisrt of all, a hundred Hazak U'baoukhs for your work. If you were on the payroll of any popular kashrut organization - for all the work you are doing, you'd probably be a millionaire by now. I am relaying a question that was asked of me by a friend. As I am not entirly familiar with industrial food processing I can't be sure what to think of certain claims of Kashrut organizations: Apple Juice - The claim is made that certain apple juices contain hames-based enzymes used as a clarifying agent. Despite the fact that it is batel, wouldn't it still be a problem of 'hazoutha' mentioned in the S.A. as being problematic? Same question for sodas. The claim is that Hames is present in the 'flavoring base'(whatever that means). Bespite being batel, would'nt it still be a problem of taam? Many Thanks! Yossi
