My father is against any Eiruv in any city that has streets going through it, coming in from one side and going out the other, unless there are doors or walls. There is a serious Argument between tens of Rishonim (early Rabbis) where about half say it is not permitted and the others say it's Ok. The Shulchan Aruch goes with opinion that it is not allowed. My father says that it is at the very least a Safek DeOraita (question on a commandment of the Torah) and that is not allowed. Additionally, I have yet to understand how they accomplish renting from all the non-Jews and non-observant-jews. Do they knock door-to-door? Many say that they go to the police chief, but they don't have the power over your house that they used to have in Europe years ago, and it isn't good enough. It is ironic that people are so lenient with Shabbat, but when it comes to Kashrut they go crazy. AA
