Extinguishing on Yom Tov

Why is it OK to turn off an oven on Yom Tov? Is extinguishing permitted in general?

No, but an oven is not your regular "Mechabeh" (extinguishing). There's no wick, and you're just cutting off it's flow of fuel, until it just disappears. AA
