f/u sushi

Question

Dear Rabbi: As followup to your the sushi question-you said raw fish is o.k. but rice has a problem with Bishul Akum? Why? We do not know the cook and will not interact with him, so the the reason for bishul akum does not apply here. After all, like you say pas palter is allowed, even though it's made by non-jews. We also buy brownies, devil dogs, and other "cooked" foods, which are kosher despite not being cooked by Jews. On the Star-K website there is an article about PAs Palter and how it is valid as long as we don't know and eat with the cook. Please explain. Much appreciation Felix

Bread is more lenient than cooking. Pat Palter is for bread only. If the rice was bought from elsewhere, it would be OK, but in a restaurant all you need to do is look over to your left and you'll see that guy who cooked your rice. AA
