factory lines

Question

What is Rav Abadi's position with regards to the possibility that production line equipment was also used for making non-kosher foods? How do we know that this does not happen? If this is not forbidden by FDA standards then why would we assume that this does not happen? If it does happen would it matter anyway? -BL

Answered by Chaim Yisrael Abadi

It happens all the time that the production lines are used for Kosher and Non-kosher. FDA requirements are that they be clean. The foods do not become assur if they were made on the same lines even if there was some residue left (which is very possible in the lines - I don't believe that the lines get perfectly cleaned). CYA
