Fasting

Question

1. Is Tzom Gedalyah a law or a custom? 2. When does this fast end? 3. What is the halakhah re. a pregnant or nursing woman on Yom Kippur?

Answer

Answered by Aaron Abadi

1) The law requires it because it is our custom. People who are sick, pregnant, headache, tummyache, etc. should not fast on all the fasts except Yom Kippur and Tisha BeAv. Even a woman who gave birth is off the hook for two years to the date. 2) 45 minutes after sundown. 3) She should fast. If it will be a problem, there are solutions.
