Question

Hi Rabbi, According to consumer reports, a product could have a certain amount of extraneous matter (rat hairs, roaches, etc) and still get USDA approval. this was the issue of tuna fish that had little things on the bottom of the can. i think that this rule is different than the rule where the 2 per cent makes up the ingrediants. Is there any validity to this is? If so, does this cause a problem with all products? Thank you, JS

There is some validity. For example, brocolli is expected to have a few little bugs, and you do not need to say "bugs" on the ingredients. But grease for the pans or anything used as part of the process, must be listed. It does not pose a problem, except by the bugs. AA
