filter coffee on shabbat

Question

i have seen on yoru q&a that you have permitted the use of a coffee maker by timer on shabbat. it was mentioned that the coffee maker uses a filter.can i assume from this that taking hot water from an urn and using a paper filter is permitted? thanx.

Are you asking if taking hot water from an urn is permitted? Yes, as long as it is not the type of urn that is attached to the plumbing and continuously fills with cold water to replace the hot that you took out. Using a filter is not permitted. The machine that is controlled by a clock was using the filter. CYA
