garbage

Question

Garbage pickup in my neighborhood is every Thursday. Is it permissible for me to put my garbage can containing chometz at my curbside, Monday morning (erev Pesach)? As far as I'm concerned the chometz inside the can doesn't belong to me. Even the garbage can is the property of the township. Have a great Pesach!
