GELATIN!! kosher or not?

Honorable Rav, I have heard much lately on the subject of gelatin, and i am looking for some clarification. 1. First thing, is gelatin made only from the dried bones, or from other parts such as marrow? 2. What animal is it made from and does that have an effect on its kashrut? 3. Why when the subject of gelatin is brought up do people immediatly claim it is un-kosher without any explanation? 4. Finally, what is the final say on gelatin? kosher or not, and why??
