Gilda Butter Crackers - again

I followed up with the Prime Flavours Company and this is what I have learned: The ingredient listed as : Natural Butter Flavour listed on the label is actually imitation Butter type flavour. The Butter Cracker is parve which is great news for the kosher consumers who eat from the meat caterer and all of the kosher consumers who buy the butter crackers to serve with chopped liver canapes. The bad news for those with food sensitivies is that the product does not contain natural butter anything, but a soybean oil and chemical ester flavour. It is not dairy derived at all. I do not know FDA regulations well enough to know if this meets their truth in labeling requirements. They are using a qt of "butter flavour" per 100lb of flour so I believe it is below the the threshold of what the FDA requires to be labeled. I went to the FDA's website and entered a product inquiry. My experience has been that they do follow up. Prime Flavours told me that an OU Rabbi had requested the Flavour Data Sheet yesterday too and that the flavour was certified by the OU as parve. I wish that Gilda Crackers had been forthcoming when I first called them. They could have just told me that the "Natural Butter Flavour" was an imitation soybean oil additive. They are required to have the MSDS on hand for every ingredient that they use. In this case the product was correctly labeled OU parve and incorrectly (or misleadingly) labeled as to ingredients. Prime Flavours told me that this is the only instance that they have ever heard of where this is the case and I must admit that in my experience I have never seen a product mislabeled in such a way by an American company.
