going from non-kosher kitchen to kosher
Question
Shalom u'mevorach l'chulam - I am currently trying to create a situtation where, when i come home from college, i can keep stringently kosher. My parent's kitchen is not kosher and so we bought new dishes for me (meat and dairy). I don't want to go overboard, though, so can we use some of the same utensils and things if i just kasher them before every time that i use them? I have many other random questions on minutae regarding kashrut issues. I really appreciate this website and would welcome any response that would answer a query one might have in regard to the situation that i am in. I definitely would like to study the Shulchan Aruch in the near future, but given the immediacy of my situation, i basically need a "game plan" to guide me along the way. Todah rabbah, Preston
Answer
Answered by Chaim Yisrael AbadiMy Father, Shlit"a, when he was a teenager, had his own cabinet with all his utensils, for when he came home from Yeshiva. My grandmother a"h proudly, showed me it, when I went to visit her, 25 years ago, when I was in Yeshiva in Eretz Yisrael. My only advice to you is, it will not be easy, but hang in, the reward is great. Hatzlaha and welcome back! CYA
