Heirloom Dishes

Question

My friend inherited dishes from relatives she is not sure kept kosher. These dishes have been in the family for a long time. She would like to use them in her home as they are quite beautiful and hold sentimental attachement. Is there anyway she will be able to do so? Is there a kashering process they could undergo?
