Question

I find all this American concern with hashgachot amusing. Over here in England the (relatively Haredi) Beth Din of London puts out a large booklet each year listing a variety of foods which they have determined are kosher. There are no mashgichim visiting plants, and no one has ever kashered the utensils at these food plants. These are American ideas.

You are right! & so it has been done in America prior to the 1980's, and so it is done in every country except the US. Even in Israel, my mother calls the different Hashgachot & they advise her on which ingredients are OK and which aren't. It's a strange phenomenon here. Thanks for your input.... AA
