Kosher food Europe?

Question

1) My wife and I are going on vacation in Italy. I've been told by many people that in France and Italy the bread is kosher even though it doesn't have a hashkacha. Is this true? If so how can we be sure that there are no non-kosher ingredients in the bread. 2) How can I find out what other foods if any do not require a hashkacha. For example, can I assume that cereal, ice cream and beverages that have a hashkacha in the U.S. are also kosher in Europe despite the absence of a hashkacha. 3) Does milk require a hashkacha?

1) talk to religious people who live in Italy or who know it well. They can tell you which breads are not ever made with animal fat. 2) yes on those 3, but again ask. In Europe they still follow the old system prior to commercial Kashrut. 3) not bottled milk in those countries. AA
