Learning Gemara

Question

Kavod HaRav, I know that the topic of women learning gemara was already discussed, and I completely understand and accept the fact that women's roles differ from that of men's. However, I was just wondering WHY (aside from the fact that we have different roles), more specifically, can women not learn it. My school offers gemara, and I was planning on taking the class next year. I figured it was okay if my yeshiva was offering it! Do I need to take a different class then? Thank you.

The following Post was put up last year. It should explain the basics. If the Gemarah that they learn is about ethics, or about stories of Talmudic Scholars, it can be OK to learn. I don't think that this is what they're teaching. AA ---------------------------------------------------------
