maaser
Question
Dear Rabbi: If someone sets aside maaser from his money, can he use part of that money to pay his children's yeshiva bill--specifically that part of the tuition that goes for torah education? Are there any things that this money can be used for also?
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiNo, but he can pay a friend's kids tuition & have the friend pay his. Shul memberships that are required are not Tzedaka (charity). Donations to Shuls in poor neighborhoods is charity. Donations to schools & Yeshivot that learn the proper way is the highest most valuable form of charity. (not too many that I know of) AA
