Mamzerut

Reading the SHU"T Yabia Omer, I am often struck by the wild pilpulistic gymnastics that Rav Ovadiah Yosef goes through to permit potential cases of Mamzerut. Although I know his effort is l'shem shamayim, it certainly appears strange that he ALWAYS comes out with a lenient ruling, often utilizing reasoning that seems forced or fanciful at best. Are the piskei halacha that emerge from the Israeli Batei Din - with regard to personal status issues like mamzerut and agunot - considered reliable by your father, in view of the fact that they are frequently based on such unusual far-fetched "lomdut"?
