Dear Rabbi Abadi, Is it necessary for an orthodox couple to have a secular marriage in addition to the religious marriage if they live in America. In essence, can they live "common law" under the eyes of the state, while being married under Jewish law? Thanks, Shabsie

Many people in the non-Jewish and Secular world live as a couple without a formal marriage. I don't see why you should be expected to be different. AA
