Matanot L'evyonim

Question

At my workplace we collected matanot l'evyonim, mostly from children, but also from some adults. The money was collected with the intention of taking it to a reliable shaliach on Purim to distribute. Because a staff member fell ill, the money was never brought to the final shaliach, and so never distributed. What should be done in this situation?
