Question
My family waits 5 1/2 hrs between eating meat and dairy. How many hours should my children under bar/bat mitzvah wait?

It is only an issue of it possibly being hard for them to wait 5 & 1/2 hours the day that they become bar/bat Mitzvah, and the day before no wait at all. Additionally, all the friends at school are waiting 6 hours and they look like Goyim. It's not a halachic issue. It's your decision. I have my son wait one hour, just to be aware of the whole thing. Then he comes to me with a yogurt, a half hour after meat begging to be able to eat it. I look at my watch and I say OK. He's 10 years old now. At 12 years old, I'll be a bit stricter, to prepare him for when he is 13. AA
