MP3 Confusion

Question

Rabbi Abadi, Regardless of copyright laws, is it permissible al pi halacha to purchase a music CD and distribute copies of it freely (or for a fee) and not compensate the CD's maker? Do such concepts even exist in our halacha regarding copyright/trademark issues? Or, al pi halacha, does buying a product entitle the buyer to do whatever s/he pleases with it, even to resell it for profit (assuming there are no civil copyright/trademark laws in place)?
