Everything we do is Halachah. Musar and/or Hashkafa that does not conform with Halachah is incorrect. A qualified Rav is one that can convey all parts of the religion. They cannot be separated. If you cannot trust your Rabbi for any aspect, then look for another Rabbi. The issues of "Yom Ha'Atzmaut" are blown out of proportion. The entire religious Zionist movement is in a bit of denial of reality. The reality is that we are not ruled by our own people, because these people are "Mumrim," and they don't believe in God. Many eat pig in public and transgress the Shabbat publicly. The religious community in Israel is constantly fending off their attempts to secularize everything in Israel. Celebrating our "independence" from Britain and the Arabs is a great idea, but celebrating the State of Israel is ignoring the truth. I know that this may upset many people, but why can't we be honest with ourselves. I wonder if much of this attitude is based in a rebelion toward the ultra-Orthodox community and their hypocrisies. If it is, I certainly can appreciate it, but at the same time let's just face the truth. The truth is that our people have become extremely anti-religious, publicly and shamelessly sinning and denying the existence of God and the Torah. Often doing everything in their power to come against those that are traditional Jews. These are not our people, these are Mumrim. Thank God that there is such a strong Teshuva movement now in Israel, but it is still such a small percentage. The lows that some Israelis sink to are embarassing to most other countries. The style of dress, the abundance of men in pony tails and airings, the drugs.... It doesn't end. What are we celebrating? We will gladly celebrate our true independence in the hands of "Shomrei Torah Umitzvot." Possibly only after Moshiach comes. Or maybe earlier. These people have a choice and maybe they'll change, although I doubt it. Why do you think we have suicide bombers? Hashem is sending wake-up calls. There is nothing anyone can do to another that is not ordered by Hashem. It says, "Al Yedey Reshaim Resha." (Through bad people he brings bad) When Hashem needs to have a bad thing done, who better to call on then the Palestinians?! If we were following the Torah, do you think any of this could happen? Learn a little "Navie" and you can see the pattern. In the time of "Achav," although they were sinning, they were at least in peace with each other. Now, we take a quick breather between each bombing to clean up the mess and then we are at each others necks. Our Torah learning can't protect us either, because it is way off the track as described in the Gemara (Talmud). So we keep getting hit almost daily. And all we can think about is how to get those Palestinians. We are missing the point, just like the dog. When you throw a stick at a dog, it barks at the stick and runs around it, not realizing that someone threw it. Hashem is actively handling this whole process, begging and waiting for his children to come back to their senses and begin following the Torah, to stop fighting with each other and start just trying to do the best we can. It is so easy. Of all the 613 Mitzvot, there are only a handful that actually effect our daily lives. Shabbat, Nidah, Kashrut, and a few more. Big deal! If that's all that it takes, why not give it a try. I'm not talking to you specifically, since it seems that you are with us 100%, but I'm referring to all our brothers and sisters. If we can just get a commitment from all Jews or most Jews that they're prepared to make strong efforts to learn about their religion and keep the basic rules, without ever changing their lifestyle or their manner of dress, Moshiach would come instantly and we wouldn't have all this.
