Panela, Rapadura
Question
Dear R' Abadi, I've recently come across a product known by several names. Its sugar cane that is boiled down to juice/pulp, which is then cooled and hardened into cakes. It is not processed in any way beyond that. It is known in South American countries as panella (Mexico I believe) and rapadura (Brazil). Is this considered kosher? Does it require a hechsher? What about for Pesach? Gut moed, Simon
Answer
Answered by Chaim Yisrael AbadiI don't know what it's called in US, but sugar cane is kosher. If it is processed with no other items, it would be ok. CYA
