Pants Follow-Up
Question
The Rav stated: If you live in an area where religious women don't wear pants, you got your problem right there. Please explain this. 1) Did the Rav mean that in these areas women may not wear pants because then pants would still beged ish? 2) Can we assume that we determine what beged ish is by what the religious jewish community in which we live is wearing and not by the society in which we live?
Answer
Answered by Aaron Abadi1) No 2) No The problem is that you would be alienated by your community. Also if the Minhag of not wearing pants was not for Begged Ish, but rather a Minhag of Tzniut, then you might be required to follow for that reason. Of course, in the real world, skirts and dresses can often be a bigger Tzniut issue than pants. AA
