Question

But there is no issur to get benefit from non-kosher food -- only if it is milk and meat. According to the Shulhan Arukh it is OK to benefit from non-kosher meat. So I don't understand what your basis is for saying that animal food has to be kosher.

if you slaughter an animal & find it to be Treif, it is Ok to give to your dog, but not to buy Treif. AA
