Rabbi Ralbag and gomel

Question

1.Would you trust Rabbi Ralbag for vegetables also? 2. Your father writes in o'c siman 61 that you only say gomel in a makom sakanah. Is going on an airplane considered a sakanah, or am I missing something over here? Thanks.
