Question

I am a female in an Ashkenazic household. My parents mainly follow the advice of what the city thinks is right more then what a Rabbi thinks is right. I would like to know if a girl can chose a Rabbi that she would like to follow if it differs from the way of her father. I understand a boy can chose.
