re eruv

Dear R' Abadi, In Moshe's post regarding eruv he states"Did the Rabbis in the Talmud have eruvim? No". This is not true. As a matter of fact, the gemara in Eruvin 68a clearly makes reference to the importance of an Eruv (see RITVA). Also, see TUR Siman 395 and Shulchan Aruch 366:13. This in no way means that an Eruv can be made without complying to Halacha. However, I did feel that there was a misrepresentation of fact in the post. As always, thanks for wondeful website

you are correct - I think his point was an eruv was not a must in every community, but the point is well taken. CYA
