RE medicine on shabbat
Question
Kavod Harav, According to the Ravs response to Jack D. that vitamins are inedible and therefore not considered food, my question is, can i take a vitamins on shabbat, that i take during the week? i have been refraining from doing so until now due to my ignorance in this matter. Thank you, Chaim

Answered by Chaim Yisrael AbadiNo vitamins and medicine CYA But wouldn't you agree Rabbi, as many poskim point out, based on the Gemara Shabbat 140a, Ramba"m, and Shulhan Arukh, that if one began taking medicine before shabbat he/she can continue taking the med on shabbat if the condition would worsen without the medication (such as antibiotics)? Some authorites add that since the issur of medication on shabbat is not as strict one nowadays as in the times of the gemara, one may continue taking meds that were started before shabbat on shabbat even if it will only cause the individual tza'ar and not a worsening in the condition.
