i did "some searching on this forum" and from what i read i understand that it is assur to listen to music just stam... but i didnt get the whole story. is ther more to it then just that it is assur to listen to music for enjoyment?? thank you for clarifying! ao

Parties that are not for Mitzvot are a problem. Music to cheer you up, music to occupy the children, relaxing music, are all fine. Party music with no purpose other than to party is a problem. Again, with the overdosing of Prozac these days, the least one should do is try a little music here and there. Don't use this music ban as an excuse for depression. Depression is a much worse sin. The reason for this conditional ban on music is because we have been thrown out of our home, the Temple in Jerusalem. Now if a man or a child were thrown out of their home, and then were seen partying the next morning in the Village or at South Beach, what are the chances of getting back in?! AA
