Question
Kavod Harav: Using the logic of batel and the reasoning you gave in the answer to the question entitled Politics v. Halacha, would it not be permissible to go into any non-kosher restaurant, inquire about the ingredients of a dish, and if nothing is questionable to eat there? This is asuming no Marat Ayin. Or, would sonmethng like this fall under Bishul Akum and not be allowed? Forgive my ignorance, but I am still learning. Todah rabah.

Answered by Aaron AbadiBishul Akum is a problem. Look at our "Jewish Laws" section for details. Just asking what is in the food might not be enough. But he can show you how he makes it. There are other ways to be sure, but it's better to be careful & get advice as you go. Certain items are never a problem. It takes time & you learn. Lox is never a problem. fruits, & most raw vegetables. AA
