Most all missionaries are evnagelical christian or mormon, and neither group accepts evolution; both groups accept the authenticity of the Old Testament; and they are both as fanatically close minded on the subject of "real books" as the most right-wing of Jews. In their schools creationism is taught, and books are banned frrom their libraries. Though some sneaky organization might have snuck a missionary into a Jewish school, no believining Mormon or evangelical would have taught evolution or encouraged the girls to read. Evangelicals beleive that every word of the Old Test must be taken literally. Having no oral tradition, no midrash, and no squabbling commentators, they are much stricter about this than we are. Is is possible that one would teach evolution? Or encourage the girls to think the Old Testament was nonsense? Quite obviously, it is this story that is nonsense.
