Sefer Torah & injuries

Question

I was taught (once upon a time) that if we read from Sifrei Torah in the synagogue that are passul (discover and do not correct it I guess) that the children of the community will suffer injuries and illnesses. Several years ago I was living in a small community where several of the children were breaking bones, one right after another. One of the mothers insisted that the Sifrei Torah be checked and they were found to be possul. Supposedly when they were fixed the accidents stopped. Is there any basis to this belief? I have heard it in a few places. Thank you again for all you do!!!

It certainly is a major problem. Every word we say of Torah & Prayers has a major effect in the spiritual world, and comes back to us in positive ways. Blessings in vain, Torahs that aren't Kosher, Gemaras with translations by Apikorsim, studying Torah the wrong way or for the wrong reasons and so on effect us in a very negative way. If we only knew the half of it! AA
