Separate Jars for Basar v'Chalav?

Shalom Rabbi, shlit"a Does one need to have separate jars of mayo, peanut butter, jelly or other spreads for basar and chalav? If yes, why? If not, then what are the rules about spoons or knives which can be used in the same jar, etc. Thank you very much.
